【西湖导游词英文1】
Ladies and gentleman,
Welcome to Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province in eastern China, which is called a heaven on Earth. I am your guide Hyacinth and I believe we will have an extremely pleasure experience today. Our destination is the West Lake,a freshwater lake with splendid view. Before we start our sweet journey, please allow me to give you a brief introduction of its long history first. The earliest recorded name for West Lake was the "Wu Forest River". The Book of Han's "Geography Column" says, "Qiantang, affiliated to the western governor general.
Wu Forest Mountain is the origin of the Wu Forest River. It has had many names before, but only two names were widely accepted in history and recorded in historical documents. One is "Qiantang Lake", due to the fact that Hangzhou was called "Qiantang" in ancient times. The other name is "West Lake", because the lake being west of the city. The name "West Lake" first appeared in two poems of Bai Juyi. Since the Northern Song Dynasty, most poems and articles of scholars used the name "West Lake", while the name "Qiantang Lake" was gradually deprecated. "The request of dredging West Lake" written by Su Shi was the first time that "West Lake" appeared in an official document.
There are ten best-known scenic spots on the West Lake, Melting Snow at Broken Bridge, Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake, Lotus in the Breeze at Crooked Courtyard, Twin peaks piercing Clouds, Spring Dawn at Su Causeway, Three pools mirroring the moon, Viewing Fish at flower harbor, Evening bell at Nanping hill, Sunset glow at Leifeng pagoda and Orioles singing in the willows.
They are known as the "Ten Scenes of West Lake". What’s more, Ten New Views of the West Lake came out in 1948. They are Precious stone hill floating in rosy clouds, Yellow Dragon cave dressed in green, Sweet osmanthus rain at Manjuelong, Dream of the tiger spring, Nine creeks in misty forest, Enjoying tea at dragon well, Bamboo-lined path at Yunqi, Flying clouds over jade Emperor hill, Sky wind over Wu Hill, Ruan Gong islet submerged in greenery. These scenic spots are not only beautiful in the view but also famous for their great history and splendid culture. We will now go to the island in the middle of the lake by ship. Please pay attention to you step and avoid falling while getting on aboard.
Laddies and gentlemen, attention please, we are now arriving at the island. Please watching your step and hold on securely to your bags, cameras, and other things you may be carrying. We can see a bridge stand in front of us. This bridge is Jiuqu Zigzag Bridge. Just as its name implies, the bridge has 9 bends and more than 30 turnings. The winding bridge with low balustrade is the medial axis of the whole island. We can see a pavilion stands in the middle of the winding bridge. That’s the Kangxi Imperial Stele Pavilion where stands the stone tablet with ‘Three pools mirroring the moon’ written by Kangxi
Emperor. You can take photos as memory if you like.
After the bridge with beautiful flowers alongside, the vast expanse of lake with three delicate stone pagodas comes to our eyes. Yeah, it is the famous Three pools mirroring the moon, one of the ten best-known scenic spots on the West Lake. The three stone pagodas were set up by Sushi at Song Dynasty. The stone pagodas were first used as a mark that no lotus, water chestnut shall be planted in the area covered by three stone pagodas to avoid obliteration of the lake. The original stone pagodas were distorted at Yuan Dynasty, the one we are now looking at were rebuild at Ming Dynasty. The three stone pagodas show almost an equilateral triangle with 2 meters high and 64meters apart from each. The middle of stone pagodas look like balls with 5 holes and reliefs surrounded while the tops look like three gourds. There are fairy tale says that three water demons were sealed by the stone pagodas in the deep of the lake. Maybe someone will feel a kind of familiar of this scene. Okay, if you have 1yuan please take it out and look at its background. Haha, that’s it, the three stone pagodas.
There is a saying that if you haven’t been looking at Three pools mirroring the moon then you haven’t went to the West Lake just like if you haven’t went to the West Lake then you haven’t been in Hangzhou. When the middle Autumn day comes, people set up lights over the lake. At that time, you can see the inverted reflection of the lights, moon and pagodas waggling in water, just like in the magic kingdom.
After meeting the delicate Three pools mirroring the moon we will now moving to Spring Dawn at Su Causeway. This time we will take boats and go alongside the Su
Causeway.
The Su Causeway ws build by Sushi, also called Su Dongpo, a famous poet and a governor of Hangzhou in the Song Dynasty. He had the lake dredged and put the silt and debris piled up and formed into a causeway. In order to honor this great poet and kind governor, local people named the Causeway after him. Today's causeway is a result of many refurbishing projects over centuries. Romanticized as Spring Dawn by Su Causeway, this scenery has been the top of ten best-known scenic spots on the West Lake since the Southern Song Dynasty. Ranged with peach, willow, magnolia and hibiscus trees, the 2.8-kilometer-long Su Causeway spans the West Lake from the Nanping Hill in the south to the Qixia Hill in the north. Along the Causeway stand six single-span stone arch bridges, Yingbo, Suolan , Wangshan, Yadi, Dongpu and Kuahong.
Ladies and gentleman, look over there. Willow trees swing slightly in the breeze. Peach trees are full of blooms, giving out intoxicating fragrance. Here comes the first bridge Yingbo, the name means reflecting the waves in Chinese. Standing on the bridge, we can see the reflections of sky, trees, buildings and ourselves clearly. The second one is Suolan which means locking the waves in Chinese and it gives us a image of peace. The next one is Wangshan bridge. Wangshan means looking at distant hills and the bridge got its name because it is quite close to the hills. Then it is the Yadi bridge. It means causeway ballast. Dongpu bridge stands at the eastern ford as so called. Besides, Dongpu sounds similar to Dongpo in Hangzhou speaking. The last one is Kuahong bridge. As this is the end of Su Causeway, walking over the Causeway is just like go panning the rainbow.
Those six bridges are the best place to enjoy the springtime. If you come here at dawn, the lake is so serene that only chirps of birds can be heard. The lake mirrors reflections of the sky and bridges, peach blossoms resemble smiling faces, Su Causeway shows us the wonders of life just like the spring. I do believe we will never forget Spring Dawn at for both its romantic and beauty.
This is the end of today’s trip. I wish you all a never end spring of your life. Thank you!
